Our Kindergarten and School Readiness Program supports children in the two years before school: those turning 3 by 30 June, and those turning 4 by 30 June in their Kindergarten year. It runs within our normal long day care hours, so there is no midday pickup.
At Village Early Learning, children develop independence, curiosity and confidence through engaging experiences that encourage exploration, creativity and connection.
Led by our Early Childhood Teachers and qualified Early Learning Educators, our program follows the Western Australian Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The WA Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines are the same curriculum framework used by Western Australian schools, helping ensure children’s learning experiences at Village align with what they will encounter at school.
As children approach school age, their learning becomes more purposeful and independent. Our educators create engaging environments where children explore, collaborate, create and solve problems through hands-on experiences.
Alongside early academic foundations, we place a strong focus on social and emotional wellbeing. Children develop communication skills, build positive relationships, manage emotions and learn to work confidently with others.
Through experiences that encourage sustainability, creativity, diversity, wellbeing and physical development, children become capable, caring and curious learners.
Language and literacy are naturally embedded throughout each day. Through storytelling, conversations, books, mark making, phonological awareness activities and group experiences, children strengthen their communication skills and develop early literacy foundations.
These experiences help children express their ideas, engage with others and build the confidence needed for their first years of school.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning is integrated through hands-on exploration, investigation and discovery. Children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and find solutions through activities such as building, experimenting, exploring technology and investigating cause and effect. These experiences nurture creativity, curiosity and critical thinking.
School readiness is about more than recognising letters and numbers. It involves developing the independence, social skills and confidence children need to participate successfully in a school environment. At Village, children are gently supported to build the self-regulation skills that will serve them for life. Each day offers real, meaningful opportunities to practise following routines, caring for their own belongings, and listening to and following instructions. We place a strong emphasis on helping children recognise and manage their emotions, take turns, share, and work through everyday challenges with growing confidence and independence.
Through group learning experiences, children build the social skills needed to cooperate, communicate and form positive relationships with their educators and peers, and the confidence to share their ideas, feelings and needs in ways that help them feel heard. Working closely with families, our educators support each child’s strengths and help create a smooth transition from Village to school.
Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to help your child feel prepared, confident and supported for the journey ahead.
